He's still wearing 5t's and he's nearly 6 1/2, so a planned growth spurt IS in order, don't you think??

Christmas Eve by quiet candlelight.
Just together.

Late night preparation.

Bright and early opening gifts!

Chloe rips through her pile quickly. No method. All madness.

Evan takes his time. Tears carefully, stops to watch Chloe, makes piles of wrapping materials, separate pile for gifts... he's very organized and steady. No rushing, ever. He savors every moment.

Mixing new toys with old the playing begins.....
and after a quick break for breakfast, we are all back on the living room floor together....

In the Snow

He:


**knows all the words to Rock Lobster by the B-52's


**loves matchbox off-roaders, transformers and video racing games


**will always choose sweatpants when getting dressed in the morning.

**claims he has counted to 10,000 (1, 2, ....109, 110, 1000...1010, 2000..... 2010, 3000...)


**has noticeably "boyish" hands. I've been watching the change oh-so-slowly over the months.

**really enjoyed two of the chapter books we've done as read-alouds -- Pippi Longstocking and Stuart Little. He laughed so hard during Pippi that he cried. And we got Stuart Little our of the library repeatedly to re-read it.


**practices printing all on his own, quite often.

**has a best friend named Jed who is 7 1/2 and so much like Evan.


**still has all his baby teeth and no loose ones.**eats constantly. and lots.


**climbs on the counter to get things to eat out of the cabinet.


**is not-so-patiently counting down days to Christmas.


**is always too hot to wear a shirt.

**asks over a hundred questions a day, easily.


**wants to go to Antarctica someday to build an ice house and explore.

She:

**loves all things colorful or rainbow patterned or polka-dotted.


**will climb on her Daddy anytime he sits or lays down.

**still sleeps with her soft baby blankets and protests if I take them off her bed.

**loves, loves, loves snakes.

**pretends to be someone/something else 90% of every day and then refers to herself in the third person: "Jane is running to the store!!" or "ThrowCatchBone is hungry and loves to munch snow" or "He's a speedy train!"

**makes this stinker face far too often

**knows the song "Part of That World" from the Little Mermaid soundtrack and can sing large portions of it in a not-so-on-key voice that sounds so precious.

**groups things by "families" when she plays, like these cat ornaments: Mama Cat, Daddy Cat, Baby kitten (who always end up on the same Christmas tree branch no matter what I do).

**has a serious sweet tooth and will literally do anything for candy, especially Jelly Bellys.



**loves Thomas the train toys, her stuffed animal dogs, and Movie cars (especially her colorful Ramone collection).

**prefers to read books while taking care of business in the bathroom.


**decides each Sunday morning who she will or will not give hugs to... Mr. Kyle? Mr. Jason? Mr. Ed? Jeffy?? And she will stick with the list, all but shunning those who didn't make the cut that morning.

In a Matter of Minutes

The weapon options and attack methods are plentiful with Evan.

One evening's photos reveal how he plays --

Jousting, stabbing, what-have-you, this is one of his many swords (aka plastic tent support rod).

It turns into nunchucks (which he is NOT allowed to practice indoors :-)Chloe is running away with two of this other weapons, the claw and another sword (aka foam tube).



Flicking projectiles across the room constitutes attack. He resorts to this to irritate Chloe.


Guns aimed at the nativity? Well.... he is a boy.
