The Day After

We're doing alright, although seriously exhausted. It hardly even rained today. Here's the backyard this afternoon.... sunny and finally free of standing water. Hard to believe that just over 24 hours before we were dealing with floodwaters. So crazy. The sludge line on the fence is at 3 feet just like we thought.

The basement floor (concrete) is still drying out (fans blowing, dehumidifier running...) and we are trying to salvage the carpet. Todd's been using a "rug sucker" that we were able to borrow to dry it out as much as we can.
It's still really wet and squishy and stinky but at least now it doesn't splash when you walk across it :-) Progress.
Here's the basement now:
The noise from all our equipment running has our ears ringing.... blah. All our "stuff" is crammed in storage boxes or in the corner that managed not to get wet (???).

Upstairs, life goes on as usual. Our poor kids think we've forgotten about them. There were a few meltdowns, fights and tears this morning. We've been working non-stop so it's understandable. But it's nothing a really cool mud-pit can't cure......well, and you know, some hugs, cuddles, book reading, eye contact... that sort of stuff...
